Duke
Nukem Advance isn't simply a port of the old PC version,
instead, the developers have created a brand new adventure.
Aliens have invaded the Earth, and it is Duke, working for
the government, that will stop them. Most of the monsters
you will be shooting are the same from the other games,
such as the infamous evil pigs. But, Take 2 has added some
more creatures: aliens that fire telepathic beams at you,
and large bosses such as immense, 8-legged spiders.
The
graphics are very well done for a Game Boy Advance game,
with a very 3D appearance, although they tend to look a
little grainy. The level design is somewhat impaired in
some parts, but other areas look great. My favorite levels
in all Duke Nukem games are the outdoor urban areas, shooting
bad guys on the streets and taking out fire hydrants. Gameplay
is still very one dimensional, because there is only one
way to complete the level, collecting keys and hitting switches
just like any other shooter game. I didn't find enough variety
in some of the missions, although some parts are very cool
and fun to play.
The
game also has multiplayer for up to four players, but each
player has to obtain the game's cartridge, and I haven't
found anybody to test this mode with. I have heard from
other reviewers that the multiplayer portion of the game
is also very good. I would recommend this game to anybody
looking for a good first person shooter on their Game Boy
Advance.
