LucasArts has long been known for making solid games. Yes,
there have been some letdowns along the way, especially Star
Wars Bounty Hunter. It's best if no one speaks of that game...
ever... forgetting is the first step to recovery ...yes...
But the good games that have been made by the company drastically
outweigh the bad. Games such as the Rogue Squadron series
and the new Knights of the Old Republic are classics. Is Clone
Wars a sleeper hit or should it be put to sleep?
ZzzZzzZzzZzz...oh sorry. That's my answer. This game should
be locked away in the deepest, darkest dungeon you can find
and never let it out. I mean, the game isn't THAT bad, but
it isn't good either. The only reason it even got a 6.5 is
due to the Xbox Live play, which can be somewhat fun at times.
Other than that this game just molds in with the rest of the
pack. That's why it became bundled with the Xbox I guess,
along with Tetris Worlds. The game really isn't any good and
Microsoft knows that, so they give it away for free to sell
more systems. For the Playstation 2 and Gamecube this game
is just downright horrible. They don't even have online play
to slightly redeem themselves.
Controlling your ship is easy enough. The buttons are straightforward,
and not complicated as in some games. There are two firing
modes, one being the main weapon and then a secondary weapon.
But really, there just aren't enough different weapons. Firing
the same types of weapons over and over again gets old. Killing
the same enemies over and over again gets old. Moving around
firing the same types of weapons killing the same enemies
over and over again gets really old. There is no satisfaction
in this game. Killing people really isn't satisfying as the
AI isn't smart, so you won't be patting yourself on the back
when you finish this game. There is lightsaber fighting in
this game as well, and it is decent enough. But it isn't overly
fun. Slicing enemies would have been better if they cut in
half or something.
Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah. That's what the graphics are. Same
old same old. I guess that's what you can expect when the
game is released for multiple consoles. It just doesn't take
advantage of what the Xbox can do. The ships themselves look
decent but they look plain and aren't detailed at all. The
environments aren't well modeled. There are jagged spots and
"faded" spots when you get too close. While on foot
the game doesn't look realistic either. The lightsaber itself
looks pretty good, so if you want to stare at that then you
might like the graphics. I haven't even got to the worst part
yet...the explosions. Where are they? Oh, that was it? Wow,
how pathetic. Yeah, that's what you'll be saying when you
start blowing up the other ships.
Star Wars has always been known for at least good music. Can
the same be said about this game? Not really. The sound isn't
good. Sure, the blaster fire sounds somewhat like it does
in the movies, but doesn't sound nearly as good as it does
in say Rogue Squadron 3: Rebel Strike. The game just needs
to be louder. Some good music put with loud explosions and
blaster fire would make you feel as if you were actually in
the battle, but that just doesn't happen in this game.
This game is not even worth a rental. If you already have
it because it came with your Xbox then I feel sorry for you.
If you don't, then don't bother picking it up for any system.
This game is only worth it if you have no money for any better
games and if you already have Xbox Live. Then you might consider
putting this one into the tray and going online to get some
short term satisfaction from playing with some people online
who you can talk with about how boring this game is, and how
maybe Tetris Worlds would provide more action...
