In
NBA Street, you play a different kind of basketball. Its
all about doing cool tricks and getting points from doing
them. There are two different types of scores: the baskets
you make, and the total amount of points you've gotten from
doing tricks. Also, there are only 3 people on each team,
similar to other arcade basketball games.
The
point system has also changed compared to regular basketball.
You get one point for dunks and shots in front of the 3
point line, and you get two points for long shots past the
line. The first team to reach twenty one points wins.
There
are all types of special modes to do, from fakeouts to spectacular
dunks. The animations for the everything else: dribbling,
passing, and blocking, are surprisingly good and fun to
watch. The graphics in this game are pretty good, although
I didn't see that much of a difference in the GameCube version.
The
gameplay is easily the best part of the game. It takes a
lot of practice to learn how to play this new version of
basketball, so there is a handy training mode that teaches
you everything you need to know. Then, you can test your
skills in the career mode, in which you go through circuits
facing different NBA teams. Be careful though, because the
computer gets very intelligent when you turn it to the harder
difficulty settings. Two player mode also gets to be a lot
of fun when you find a worthy opponent.
There
are also a few problems with this otherwise great game.
I believe that there isn't enough changes to the GameCube
version; they could've easily added in a few minigames or
some more levels. I also don't enjoy the fact that its only
a 2 player game. It would've been more more fun with 4 people.
All
in all, NBA Street is a great game that all arcade or basketball
fans should at least try.
