Ahhh...yes. This game is sort of old, but its definitely not a goodie. I bought this game because my friends were raving about how good it was online and how much they played. On a side note, my friend is a hypocrite that just buys a game and calls it good just cause its new. I should have known better than to trust him. He never actaully played single player. Anyways, that's the downfall of this game. Its single player just utterly sucks. It took me 2 1/2 hours to beat on single player on medium difficulty, and by no means am I good at games. The gameplay is decent. The graphics are pretty good, but doesn't work sometimes.
The system requirements are a 400 MHz Pentium whatever, 64 MB of ram, 8 MB video ram and the rest is irrelevant. At the time I had a 667 MHz Celeron with 162 MB of ram, and 8 MB of video ram. The game ran well on 800x600, and for a little more choppiness, I could run it on 1024x728. I just pulled the game out a little while ago to play it on my new 1.7 GHz machine that has 640 ram, a GeForce 4 Ti 4200 w/ 128 MB of video ram, and with the settings maxed out, it ran choppy. You say, "Well, why does this bother you? It is all the way up." I say I can run UT2010 with all the settings maxed out and it runs fine. The programming on this game has much to be desired. As well, when I was playing, my sound cut out. Randomly.
The actual single player itself was fun, while it lasted. As I said, this game is quite short. And if it had gone on, it would have gotten to repetitious. So, it was a lose lose situation. Don't get me wrong, the game was fun for a while, but then it just got to do the same thing over and over and over again. Not too fun, it just made me more bored when I was looking for something to do. But, if they had spiced up the missions a bit and made it longer, they would have had a good game.
I must say, this is a letdown. The multiplayer is amusing for a time, but there's still something, like the single player, that makes it boring. Even their new "geo-mod" technology had much to be desired. It just stopped working after a while. Again, amusing for a while, but it got old. Overall, I don't like this game. I wouldn't go so far as to say I hate it, but it is pretty bad. The gameplay gets old, the story gets old, the weapons get old, the multiplayer gets old, everything is so bla. Im usually one to quickly give a game a good rating, but I take pride in how low of a rating I am going to give this one.
Better luck next time, THQ.
