| Unreal II: The Awakening |

Unreal II is a disappointment, to say the least. When I first sat down and opened up the game with high expectations, and after I was dazzled by the wonderful intro, I saw the opening menu. I was shocked. There was no multiplayer option! Multiplayer is what made the Unreal series into what it is today. After I got over the fact that there was no multiplayer, I moved onto the actual game.
The opening cutscene seemed pretty solid and led into a fairly in-depth storyline. The ship is kind of a home base that you return to after every level. The characters walking around the ship are beautifully rendered and their heads realistically followed you as you moved. You can walk around the ship and talk to the crew, slowly unraveling the storyline as you go. Of course, if you don’t choose to talk to everybody you miss a lot of the plot.
The actual levels of the game are mediocre at best. Epic obviously tried to make up for a lack of creativity and interactive detail with amazing graphics. It’s not enough. The levels aren’t nearly as open-ended or puzzle-based as the ones in the original Unreal. Now there is more of a focus on fighting and a spooky ambiance. The actual structure of most levels comes in the form of mission objectives. This system is very erratic and never really becomes regulated which makes the game seem very sloppy. Every once in a while a crewmate from your ship will give you advice or an update on your situation, but it seems as if she ignores for most of the time you’re on the job.
The one quality that may yet be able to redeem this game is the editor. I haven’t tried it myself but I assume it will be similar to the UT2010 editor, which is very solid and usable. Hopefully, there will be some good mods released and maybe even one for multiplayer. Overall, this game could use some serious improvement. They need to spend more time on content and less time on the graphics engine and special effects. I’m just glad I didn’t go out and buy this game. So if you’re looking for a good adventure/shooter, I still recommend the original Unreal.

Unreal
2 is a waste of your money. I liked Unreal (the original)
a lot, because it was a long, challenging, fun to play game.
It's graphics were nice also, but it was the gameplay that
mattered. I was expecting the same out of the sequel, but
was disappointed. It is beautifully endowed with graphics,
but nothing else. The story is short, there is little to do,
the gameplay was monotonous, and there was NO MULTIPLAYER.
This game is not worth your time at all.
