Infinium
Labs has released the specs on their system which will either
revolutionize the industry or make a spectacular flop.
What
makes Phantom so different from other systems on the market?
For one thing, the games will all be downloaded. There is
no memory slot, optical drive and by the looks of it, everything
will have to come through the Ethernet connection. Just
simply buy or rent the game, and it will download to the
40GB hard drive for storage.
The
Phantom will definitely be powerful in terms of hardware.
It's going to have an Athlon XP 2500+ CPU, 256MB RAM, 128MB
GeForce FX 5700 Ultra, the aforementioned 40GB hard drive,
nForce 2 Ultra 400 motherboard, a custom controller and
game pad, a keyboard and mouse, and a lapboard, all included
in the package. And possibly, it may have future adapters
to connect it to the PC.
Of
course, there is a catch. You have to pay 29.99 a month
to have service, and you must sign up for at least 2 years.
Although the system is free, you have to buy the games,
most about 10 dollars cheaper, or rent them, which can still
get pricey. And don't plan on cracking it either, because
Andrew Huang coded it, and he broke the Xbox code, so you
know it will take some work.
