Make no mistake, this isn't Rising Sun, the game that was
released for the consoles. No, my friend, this game is completely
different and looks to be a whole lot better. Medal of Honor:
Pacific Assault hopes to rebound the series from the pain
of the blow dealt to it by the successful World War II shooter,
Call of Duty. It may just be able to breath some new life
into the Medal of Honor series.
Technically, this game is leaps and bounds above the other
games. A whole new graphics engine and a new AI engine accompany
Pacific Assault. Needless to say, this game does look very
good and from the gameplay video it looks like it plays a
lot better than the previous games as well. The new AI now
actually move and act like a squad, which seek cover and adjust
depending on the flow of battle. Additionally, a lot of things
around you are effected by your actions. For instance, if
you man a gun and start helping out your brothers fighting
in the intense air battles overhead in the fight for Guadalcanal,
one of forty levels in the game, then your guys will start
doing better as the enemies start to be thinned out.
There is a lot more focus on squad gameplay, as is clear not
only with the new AI but also with their abilities. Trust
me, you want to keep them alive in this game. They will find
you health power ups and will help quite a bit in taking out
the enemy. More importantly, when you get shot, the world
will become blurry for a few seconds, and even worse, if you
are low on health the world will gray out as you become close
to health. In these cases, if you are protecting your medic,
he will come to your assistance and revive you.
Other missions will have you taking control of vehicles, either
as the gunner or the driver, and even as the gunner in an
airplane. These missions hope to offer some variety.
Medal of Honor and PC FPS fans should be excited about this
one. It will hit shelves this fall.
