Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy is very close to a release
now, however, it naturally still had to make an appearance
at Midway's E3 booth this year. Really, Midway doesn't have
that strong of a lineup and Psi-Ops is one of the games that
they are hoping will be a hit. That remains to be seen.
This game is very similar to Second Sight, or maybe second
sight is similar to Psi-Ops? Who knows. Either way, both game
focus on a mixture of shooting, stealth, and plenty of psychic
abilities. You will take on the role of Nick Scryer, formerly
an agent for the U.S. government. Your job? Fight against
"The Movement", a terrorist organization. Of course,
The Movement has plenty of psychics fighting for them as well.
The real driving force behind the game is the psychic powers
and needless to say there is quite a few of them. Telekinesis
plays the major role as it will lend its hand in fighting
enemies as you throw objects at them or simply pick the enemies
themselves up. There is another interesting feature called
"Telekinesis Surfing" which involves riding one
of the objects you pick up to the destination. Interesting.
Other powers include controlling enemies minds, "remote
viewing" for viewing ahead and around corners, as well
as pyrokinesis to start fires (oh great, just what we need,
more pyromaniacs). Each of the bosses in the game will have
these abilities and basically it is your job to beat them
at their own game by finding weaknesses in their powers.
The near-final build of the game has somewhere between 15-20
hours of gameplay according to Midway. The game definately
has a solid graphics engine with some spiffy special effects
to make this game look nice and pretty.
If you are interesting in using psychic powers, this game
should be on the top of your list. Be sure to keep an eye
on it as it's release draws nearer.
