Genre:
First Person Shooter
Systems: Xbox
Developer: Epic Mega Games
Publisher: Microsoft Games
Release Date: Winter 2011

After a very unsuccessful Unreal Championship release, it seemed that all was lost. Maybe the Unreal games just aren't supposed to be on consoles. Microsoft and Epic Mega Games don't seem to think so because they are hard at work on what could be a mega hit. Get ready boys and girls, this is the Liandri Conflict.

Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict is adding a whole slew of features seeking to establish itself not as just another Unreal game, but a whole new console franchise. Amazingly, they just might pull it off. Unlike its predecessor, the new game will feature a slightly slower paced gameplay to better fit the console setting, as well as a third person view.

Both of these are in place to make way for a completely new addition to any Unreal game, an emphasis on melee weapons. The fighting in the new game is extremely quick and brutal as gamers will allowed to pull out their swords and lances and go at it. Luckily, the combat system seems very good as there is an excellent contact detection system and amazing animations to go along with the variation in the attacks. Even better, these weapons can be used to deflect enemy shots. If you are freakishly lucky, you may even deflect shots and kill enemies with those deflections.

There are many different characters to go with the new gameplay. Smaller, quicker characters can be used for hit and run attacks. The large more brute like character can be used to take and dish out heavy amounts of damage. There is also a marine, who is just in the middle. A new weapon that accompanies the marine is a green glob weapon. Don't jump to conclusions Unreal fans, this is nothing like the weapon from the Unreal Tournament series. This globs can act like sticky grenades if they attach to the enemy, and if they don't, they will stick to the ground for nearly forever and wait for an unaware enemy to run by. Then, the glob will take off and chase the enemy. Be careful, it doesn't know the difference between friend and foe, so you are a nice, meaty target as well.

Console FPS gamers should be sure to keep a very close eye on this game as it is shaping up to be truly impressive and original. This game seeks to correct the wrongs that made the original so horrible. Not only that, it is sporting a new graphics engine that simply looks amazing. I can't wait.
