Final Fantasy X Review

Final Fantasy X is Squaresoft's first Final Fantasy on the PS2. As always in the Final Fantasy series, it combines great characters, story and amazing graphics.

The game begins by introducing you to Tidus, a star Blitzball player in Zanarkand, Tidus' home city. Blitzball is a soccer/football sport played in a floating sphere of water. Really weird if you ask me. But hey, It's fantasy right? During a blitzball game one night, a huge wave of water destroys Zanarkand and teleports Tidus 1000 years into the future. Here Tidus is found in Spira in a village called Besaid, a tropical island in the middle of no where. You meet Yuna, the daughter of Lord Braska and future summoner of besaid. You begin your journey with Yuna and others on a pilgrimage to complete her summoner training and kill Sin. Sin is a monster of Spira that summoners must destroy to bring peace to Spira.

One huge plus in FFX is the fact that the characters are actually likable. Each have a sense of humor, depth and past. Tidus, the main character in my opinion really gets on my nerves. He's loud, obnoxious and super annoying. Yuna, the leading female role, is quiet, caring, and strong. She is on a pilgrimage to become a stronger summoner like her father and defeat Sin. Lulu is a black mage who guards Yuna as well. She is short spoken, wise, and always knows what to do. Wakka is Besaid's star Blitzball player. His island accent and strong religious feelings are a major asset to the group. Kimhari is a Ronso, a catlike human who guards Yuna. He is obedient, extremly quiet, and inhumanly strong. He would do anything to protect Yuna. Auron is a wise, all knowing, rude man who joins Yuna and friends to defeat Sin. He speaks what's on his mind and never holds back. Rikku is the fast talking quick little girl of the group. She is kind, helpful and a fun party member.

The biggest change in FFX from the previous FF's are the amazing graphics. Arguably the best PS2 graphics to date, FFX could rival Final Fantasy the movie in some parts of the game. Spell effects and cut scenes are impeccable. Characters also talk and have voice overs in FFX. The casting of the voices was great also.

I really enjoyed playing FFX. Its by far the best RPG in 2001. A very enjoyable game. If you like RPG's I suggest buying FFX.
