Jak and Daxter Review

If you have never played this game, and you felt like playing a platform game on your Playstation 2, then I would suggest you pick this one over Crash Bandicoot any day of the week.

You play as Jak and Daxter and you must go around collecting these powercells to do other things and open up new areas. You will fight all kinds of monsters that will attack you or try to prevent you from gathering all the powercells. You will also need to interact with several of the charcters in the story and you must complete certain objectives to beat in each world.

The graphics in this game are excellent. The worlds are just huge, and also very expansive. Basically, if you can see it, you can most likely go there sometime during the game. The game is seperated into six worlds, that will take you a good amount of time to complete. Everywhere you go you see animals running around, people going about their daily business in the town, a big pelican flying around, as well as water moving with the waves and things. This is a great amount of stuff to fit into a world, and it is amazing how there is no slowdown or choppy areas in the game. The textures in the levels are just amazing. The rock is actually layered with pieces of it missing when you look at it close enough. The grass also sways and moves around when people move over it. You can pretty much see every blade of grass as you move through it. The water textures and waves and ripples are all done very well.

For the most part, you are supposed to collect powercells that restore the Precursor Legacy. You play as the character Jak who has his pal Daxter to help him fight enemies. You have several different attacks to fend off enemies with, including swinging Daxter around in the air to hit them. You also collect these green circles that are your health and they are very plentiful. You basically pick these up when you kill enemies. They also have blue balls that make Jak run faster and stronger. You have around six objectives in each world, and the game is based very loosely around them because you get powercells by completing each of them. The game is really fun to play, and you will find yourself addicted to it after just playing it for around five minutes.

The control for Jak is done extremely well. They make all of his moves extremely easy to do, and he maneuvers extremely well through every part of the game. There isn't one part where you find him doing something that you didn't want him to do, or seem him falling when trying to jump somewhere. They used a unique button layout, but it makes it extremely easy to play this game. Another great thing about the control is it makes the game a great one that you can just pick up and play and learn how to do everything in a matter of five minutes.

I would say this is definitely one of the better platform games I have ever played and is much better than the Crash Bandicoot series. If you have $50 and like platformers, than I highly suggest you go out and pick this one up.
