Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 Review

The third part to an already great series, doesn't let down. If you liked the previous two games, no matter the system, run to get this one.

Gameplay:
THPS3 is the perfect game if you are bored. It is extremely easy to just pick it up and play. Within seconds, you will be hooked. The menu's are both eye catching and easy to navigate. You pick from Career, which involves trying to complete the game and up your character's stats. This is the most fun of all other mode's, because you get such a rush from completing the goals and unlocking secrets. The other modes include Single Run, where you just play a single level with a two minute time limit; and Free Skate, where you pick a level and just skate- no time limit, no nothing.

New additions to the series include a brand new character creation system, online play, and the revert. When making characters now, you have the choice of either a man or a woman. From afros to clown shoes, there is a huge selection or accessories and clothing that make this a fun experience.

Online play is probably the coolest part of the game. You don't need Sony's own method, only a cable connection to the internet. You plug in, register, and play. You will find yourself just watching others play, then go bust your own tricks. Even cooler: you can taunt others and knock them down!

Control:
Excellent. Using the D-Pad or the Joystick to move yourself around is very fluid and easy. It isn't hard or aggrivating to make a sharp turn if you miss something. You use the X button for ollies, O for grabs, [] for flip tricks, and triangle for grinds. With the great layout of the Playstation 2 controller, you will be linking massive tricks in no time.

Speaking of linkiing tricks, THPS3 has added a new way called the revert. Put simply, this enables you to go up a vert ramp, and with a quick tap of the R2 button, link it with a manual to get huge points. This alone adds hours of replay value. The shear trill of doing a massive aerial stunt into a manual, then into a grind makes this game worth playing.

Graphics:
The THPS series has always had nice graphics, and this one is no exception. From excellent character models to highly detailed enviroments, this one is quite the looker. There are a couple minor flaws, but nothing that takes away from the gaming experience. You really have to see this game to believe it!

Sound:
Unlike THPS2, this one goes back to its punk/ska roots. Most of the music is catchy and enjoyable, but there are a few tunes I found myself muting. The quality is great, and comes out loud and clear. All in all, the makers could have found some better stuff.

Conclusion:
THPS3 is the best skateboarding game you'll ever find... well at least until the inevitable Tony Hawk 4. Go, buy, go online, enjoy.
