Blood
Omen 2 is the sequel to the first one, and is made on the
Playstation 2, and the Xbox. It is basically an action adventure
game that is leaning more towards the action than anything.
Kain
is incredibly fast and agile, and you will be able to do
many things you didn't think you could. The basic controls
are as follows, the X button has Kain strike his weapon
or claws at a citizen or enemy. The B button turns on the
dark gift that you have selected, the Y button has Kain
grab his enemies around the neck and lift them into the
air, the A button jumps, the right trigger locks onto enemies,
and the left trigger has Kain block attacks from his enemies.
The white button opens up the dark gift menu which lets
you select the type of dark gift you want to use. You can
float with Kain when jumping in the air to make a silent
land on the ground which lets you sneak up on unaware enemies.
You can also do different types of attacks when Kain has
his enemies held in the air and different moves when fighting.
He controls incredibly well doing the exact thing you want
him to.
The
characters in the game look mediocre and I don't feel are
really up to xbox standards. They don't look that bad but
there is definite room for improvement. Characters faces,
their hair, and a number of other things can be improved
if they make another one. The surroundings are outstanding.
The buildings all look great and realistic for their time
setting, and the scenery looks great as well. Weapons look
realistic and wear down after a certain amount of time when
using them. There is no slowdown on the Xbox version and
there is nothing that seems to be blurred. The blood animation
where Kain sucks blood from his victims looks great, but
it is the same thing time after time, just from a different
camera angle.
For
the first several chapters, they teach you the basics of
how to control Kain and teach you how to defeat enemies.
After learning the controls with your fellow vampire friend,
you move through the city and do different things for the
vampire group. For the most part you just go through the
city through the only available path, fending off enemies
that attack you and killing citizens to keep your blood
meter up. Kain is much stronger and faster than his enemies,
which makes for a great combat system. Even if he doesn't
have any weapons, he can block attacks with his forearm.
Enemies are pretty smart and try to surround you if there
are numbers of them. For the most part citizens won't call
the guards to help them, unless you walk up to them and
try to kill them. The citizens will help you sometimes in
your quest, and when you have to fight the guards, it is
a good thing. This game probably won't take too long to
beat, but it also depends on how much you play the game.
It doesn't look to have the greatest replay value, but I
will be playing it again for sure because of how fun it
is to run around fighting the citizens and guards. One other
thing that I feel is worth mentioning, is the fact that
weapons wear down and will shatter after extended use, which
then makes you look for other weapons to use for your disposal.
The
citizens voices are great. You will hear them carrying on
conversations in the street, arguing with their husbands/wives,
or even telling each other to run and get the guards. When
you come up to them like you are going to kill them, they
start screaming, which sounds pretty realistic. The weapons
also sound real when clanking against each other, or when
slamming against someone's armor. The blood noises, like
when he is sucking blood from his victims, even sounds real.
I think this game is great in the sound department. The
music is even gothic and fits the time slot that this game
occurred in.
I
would suggset this game to everyone except people who look
for great replay value in the game. It is worth $50 in my
opinion, but to other people, it may only be worth a rent.
I would say rent this one to see if you like it.
