Unreal Championship Review

Sound: 7.5
Graphics: 7
Gameplay: 5
Replay: 7.5
Multiplayer: Yes, Online and Offline

The Unreal series consists of some of the best first person shooters for the PC. Unreal and Unreal 2 are amazing singple player games while Unreal Tournament and Unreal Tournament 2010 are two of the best arcade type shooters ever. Unreal Tournament 2010 is just plain amazing. There is no better multiplayer first person shooter available due to all the mods (modifications) and user made maps. Now, Atari is trying to spread the love over to the Xbox. But can Unreal Championship achieve the same success as its older siblings or is it a "M-M-M-MONSTER KILL!"

Personally, I wouldn't go quite as far as to call it a monster kill, but it is pretty bad. This game just doesn't belong on the Xbox. Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Unreal Championship are both games that simply don't belong on consoles. Their counterparts are amazing PC shooters but the console versions are just plain horrible. The gameplay for both is just off. Both games match with the keyboard and mouse setup perfeclty. Both are more of arcade type shooters and that fast pace really works well with the PC, but the console joystick just doesn't go with these types of games.
I already mentioned how horrible using the joystick is. But really, this game is like a toned down Unreal Tournament 2010, and it isn't a good toned down. It's as if Atari realized that without the keyboard and mouse it would be harder so they slowed the game down, and now it just feels in between, which is absolutely horrible. There is also some slowdown in this game, especially when booting it up. I hate having to wait for the game to load up. It also gets pretty jittery at the menus. There is no excuse for it. It feels as if the game was rushed.

The graphics are ugly. After playing the PC game where the graphics are crisp and detailed, this game is so bad if it had a mother she wouldn't even look at it. But really, the gunfire is faded and looks like it's from the N64, the characters are bland and aren't very clear. The environments make me want to puke. This game was toned down so it is worse than most Xbox games when it comes to graphics and yet there are still "hiccups" and slowdowns. It just doesn't make any sense.

The sound is decent enough. The taunting is very good. However, taunting a computer just doesn't feel very good, sorry. I mean sure, they automatically say things when they kill you, but what's the point of saying something back? It's not as if they actually understand it. Online, however, the taunting fits right into the game. I must say the guns sound good though and the explosions sound very nice, the game has the right amount of volume.

Now...replay...this is a toughie. Really, it all depends on the gamer. Even though this game does have multiplayer and does have Xbox Live play, it just isn't very good. The multiplayer isn't good enough to make people actually want to invite over friends to paly, and the Xbox Live play is maybe worth half an hour before you get bored of it and move on. Unless for some reason you actually love this game to death, it isn't worth the money and should never be mentioned again.
